MEET THE ALPHA – A GARDEN-SIZED SOLUTION TO A PANDEMIC-SIZED PROBLEM

The DROP Structures Alpha Portrait

With children, spouses and pets all trying to compete for space 24 hours a day, working from home has never been more difficult or more prevalent than it is today.

The new Alpha is DROP Structures solution to cramped, busy workspaces that’s cost-effective, fast, and simple.

“Since COVID, we’ve had a ton of inquiries into home offices. Everyone’s working from home and wants a simple solution that will get them some peace and quiet so they can get work done. That’s what the Alpha is.”

— RYAN ABERNATHY, OWNER OF DROP STRUCTURES

Here in Canada, nearly half of the people who are still employed are working from home, according to a survey by the Canadian Internet Registration Agency. Though the pandemic has shifted those numbers drastically, the number of people telecommuting from home, or starting businesses from home has been steadily increasing since the turn of the millennium.

Despite the growing need, the typical solutions, like renovations or additions, have never been more difficult now that the novel coronavirus has many of us on lockdown. And, even once the world starts to put itself back together after the pandemic, renovations and additions remain expensive and time-consuming for those who will continue to work from home.

A solution for those working from home because of COVID-19

DROP Structures has worked with many clients to create home offices out of MONO Minis. Past clients love the separation and convenience that comes from having a home office to telecommute from.

“In our new home office, I can get more done in a shorter period of time,” Lisa Sellinger, a past client said of her MONO Mini home office. “My old office, I felt stressed out in, but I like being out here [in the DROP Structure] now – I don’t feel stressed out.”

Having their own building gave them the ability to separate themselves when working so they could create a serene work environment that didn’t have to do double-duty as a guest bedroom.

However, not everyone needs over 100 sq/ft for their home office.

By downsizing by almost half, to around 60 sq/ft, the new Alpha offers the same, separate space while taking up less room in the backyard, requiring a lower investment, and easing preparation and placement.

That makes it the perfect solution for those who need a workspace as soon as possible, with minimal interruption – and with as little financial investment as possible.

Create simple

The Alpha is designed around one of the most ubiquitous pieces of office furniture – the Ikea desk. At just under 8’x8’, the interior wraps around the MICKE with plenty of room to maneuver on three sides.

“This is a DROP Structure stripped to its very core and made as simple as possible. We wanted to build something that could easily incorporate standard office furniture like Ikea so we started there, adding just enough to make it the perfect office, and nothing more.”

With its compact size, it fits easily into most backyards and is easy to place.

In fact, preparation for the unit is simpler than other DROP Structures. While the Alpha can sit on a prepared foundation of gravel, concrete or, pilings, just like its bigger brothers, it doesn’t have to. The Alpha’s lightweight design and footprint even allow it to be placed on concrete pavers you can find at any hardware or landscaping stores, like Home Depot or Lowes. The site simply needs to be level. Once placed, simply plug it into any 110v, exterior outlet, add a desk and office chair, and your new home office is ready.

Landscape and Portrait

The new Alpha comes in two variations – the Portrait and the Landscape (a nod to Ryan’s history as a photographer). While the interior dimensions are the same, the two layouts offer slight differences to give more options for greater flexibility and usefulness

The Alpha Portrait

The Portrait more closely resembles its larger cousin, the MONO and Mono Mini, with its longitudinal layout. The entrance is at the front of the unit, under the slanting roofline, offering that same, distinctive DROP Structures style our clients and followers have come to know and love.

The Alpha Landscape

Unlike most other DROP Structures, the Alpha Landscape features a large, glass sliding door on the ‘side’ of the unit. This brightens the interior with more glass and for the first time, gives clients more options for the placement of their DROP Structure.

An affordable solution

The new Alpha is available now, starting at $10,900 USD ($14,900 CAD) for the base model, which does not include the glass door or extra windows.

“We really worked hard to keep the price low so it would be an affordable solution for everyone. Additionally, we are sourcing a few finance options for people who can’t afford the lump sum payment, and hope to have an answer available on our website soon.”

— RYAN ABERNATHY

The premium design style, which includes the iconic glass door, starts at $12,900.00USD. Available options for both the premium and base model include:

  • A 2’ or 4’ extension

  • Extra glass options

  • A variety of different interior and exterior finishes
